Lab Values for the NCLEX-RN®
A self-paced NCLEX-RN® course on laboratory values: electrolytes, renal function, and acid-base balance. You learn to read a result, recognize an unsafe value, and choose the safe nursing response.

How a Jade NursingPrep™ NCLEX® class works
Each lab value gets its own lesson. The lesson comes with guided practice, NGN-Style questions with full rationales, dual-coding visuals, and original memory hooks.
The method is reasoning before recall. The range is the starting point. The nursing action is the skill.
Two Jade methods run through every lesson. The N.U.R.S.E.S. Sequence™ is the decision tree you run on any result. The ACTS-5™ MicroCycle is the five-phase cycle each lesson is built on. Both are explained below.
Reference ranges are always framed against the range printed by your own school, textbook, or facility. Optional faith-aligned encouragement is woven through the lessons for students who want it.
The N.U.R.S.E.S. Sequence™ decision tree
The N.U.R.S.E.S. Sequence™ is six questions, asked in order. You run them on every lab result. The same six questions run in the lesson, in the case, and in the exam item.
It is a decision tree, not a list. Each question has an exit. You only move to the next step when the answer sends you there.

Why a decision tree improves test-taking
An NGN-Style item gives you a result and asks what the nurse does next. The common error is to jump from the number straight to an action. The tree puts two questions between the number and the action.
Step 1 makes you read the result before you react. Step 2 makes you name the cause. Step 3 makes you rank before you act. Step 4 keeps the action inside the nurse’s scope. Step 5 and Step 6 close the loop the way a real shift does.
Run the six questions on every practice item. On exam day you are not recalling a number. You are running a routine you have already run many times.
The ACTS-5™ MicroCycle: how each lesson is built
Every lesson runs the same five phases. The phases are built on retrieval practice and spaced repetition. You recall before you read, you reason before you answer, and you return to the value after you have started to forget it.
- Active RecallAudit what you already know about the value. Chunk it into what is normal, what is high, and what is low.
- Clinical EncodingEncode the core: what the value does in the body and what changes when it is off. Dual-coding visuals and original memory hooks carry the load here.
- Think-Through ReasoningMeet a named patient. Read the case chart: history, today’s events, vitals, resulted labs, and orders. Then work the NGN-Style questions that unfold from that chart, each with a full rationale for every option.
- Safe-Practice AnchoringLearn the traps and the aids. The wrong answers that look right, and the reminders that keep you on the safe action.
- Five-Phase MicroCycleSpace and boost. The value comes back on a schedule, so the recall is tested again after the first pass fades.
Unfolding scenarios, not a question bank
A question bank hands you questions. Jade NursingPrep™ builds the reasoning first, then drills it on one patient whose picture unfolds.
The case chart is the anchor. Each question in the slate reads the same patient at a later moment. You carry what you learned in one item into the next, the way you would on a unit.
